Checkups and cleanings
A gentle exam and a cleaning
A checkup looks at your teeth, gums and any dentures, and a cleaning removes buildup you can't brush off. Provided by a general dentist.
The dentist decides how often you need each, from what she or he sees, not from a calendar. If you wear dentures, we check them and your gums too.

What happens
What happens
About an hour for a first visit, and less after that.
- 01
Step 1: A talk
What you want, what worries you and what you've noticed.
- 02
Step 2: The exam
The dentist looks at your teeth, gums and any dentures, and shows you what she or he sees.
- 03
Step 3: X-rays, only if needed
We take them when the dentist needs them to answer a question, not on a schedule.
- 04
Step 4: The cleaning and a plan
We clean, then you hear what comes next and what it costs, in writing.
Good to know
Comfort
Tell us if your gums are sore or your mouth tires quickly. We rest between steps and stop when you raise your hand.
If you wait
Gum and tooth problems often start before they hurt. A checkup finds them while they are smaller; skipping one is your choice, and we will still see you when you come.
Risks and after-care
Gums can be tender or bleed a little after a cleaning. Brush gently and tell us if it lasts more than a day or two.
How it is billed
We give you a written estimate before treatment, and nothing starts until you agree to it.
How fees work
About checkups
How often do I need X-rays and a cleaning?
The dentist decides after your exam, from your teeth and gums, not from a calendar.
What is a deep cleaning?
A longer cleaning below the gum line, for gums that have pulled away from the teeth. The dentist tells you if you need one and why.
Can I get a written estimate before treatment?
Yes. Ask when you book or at any visit. It lists each step we expect and the fee for each, in large print if you would like.
Ask for a checkup
Request a visit, and bring your dentures if you wear them.
